Food manufacturing industry is known for its high concentration of COD and suspended solid. In wastewater treatment, anaerobic process is favorable due to its low cost, biogas production, low sludge production and more. Organic matter is the major pollutant in food industry wastewater. The main key in removing the contaminants in the wastewater is done by the microorganisms. Microorganisms are aerobic, anaerobic or facultative in nature. If aerobic, they require oxygen to live. On the other hand, anaerobic bacteria exist and multiply in environments that lack dissolved oxygen (DO).
